  • Goin' to school today. One class, a biology lab. I'm a little nervous. For one, science isn't really my thing, and two, I haven't had a biology class since sophomore year of high school. And also I have to get an A OR ELSE.

Right now I'm waiting for Scott to finish getting ready because his first class is also at ten. I'm going to get a ride from him! I hope I don't get lost today. I should have gone to the campus and looked at where my classes will be. I guess I do have an hour in between classes to scope it out.

I really hope this quarter goes well, because if not I will most likely get discouraged from doing nursing. That's how it goes! I'm going to try my hardest, though.

  • The Dark Knight is on imdb's Top 250 now. It's got a 9.5 rating. I really want to go see it again, but goddamn, it's so intense I don't know if I can make it. I'm going to guess that I will still be very scared from it for a long time to come. I do get scared easily, but I usually don't get the chills when thinking about it afterwards. Except for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with it's stupid screeching background music. That's one of the other things that gives me goose pimples all the time. And that makes me close my closet door at night, and make sure the doors are locked, and of course, sleep with a night light.

I went to orientation today at PSU. I was planning on finishing up all my nursing pre-requisites this year and then transferring to SOU, but it looks like I'm going to have to stay another year and take some science classes that require you to take them in sequence. As Jeff would say: WOMP. What this means is that I'll be staying at PSU next year so finish up and then possibly transfer out of state for nursing school.

    And here's my fall schedule:

    Monday:
    Bio lab 10:15-12:05

    Tuesday:
    Biology
    10-11:20

    WR121
    12-1:50

    Spanish
    2-3:50

    Stats
    4:40-6:30

    Wednesday:
    NO CLASS

    Thursday:
    Same as Tuesday

    Friday:
    NO CLASS
(With this awesome schedule, I can work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday! I'm actually excited about that. I can still work like 30 hours a week if I want to.)

I gotta tell you, I'm not excited about Writing or Statistics. Why? I took them both senior year but was too silly to sign up for credit (Different story for stats. I just didn't do the homework. Ever. For the whole year. I failed every single exam. No joke! How did I pass with a C? Mrs. Rochester is a babe. And also, what a respectable thing for me to do (Not doing homework all year.).)

The woman I babysit for is a nurse at Emmanuel Children's Hospital and she said they're starting to build a brand new children's hospital and most likely it'll be done right when I finish nursing school. How awesome would that be? An awesome job in Portland right after graduation? Too bad Portland is one of the most competitive places for jobs, let alone nursing jobs.

I was talking to my adviser and she said that out of like 800 applicants to OHSU, they only accept around 80. Holy shit! You have to have a GPA of at least 3.8 for them to even consider your application. After I heard that, I thought about it, and now's the time to travel, so I'm going to start looking at out of state nursing programs. She said one girl went to Alaska because there was a shortage of nurses there, and while she was finishing school, she was working and paying off loans while making oh, 25 or 35 an hour. What I'm getting at is that travel nursing is the way to go. I'm now going to have Spanish under my belt too, so that'll hopefully open up more opportunities as well. And now that I'm taking Spanish, there will be more places for me to study abroad. I might try to get into a summer program for this next summer.

In other news, I've had a headache for the past five days straight. I keep meaning to call my doctor but I've been too busy and headachey to do it.

I finally got my food handler's permit. Woo hoo! I had a dream that I got arrested for not having it. And now it can never happen.

My summer is almost halfway over so far. I've had fun, but I want to get outside more. It feels like when I'm not at work I'm just hanging out in my room.

I had a lot of fun with Jarf on our little anniversary camping trip. We were right next to the Columbia River and we hung out of the beach a lot. Jeff got really good at skipping rocks by the end of the trip. I got a sunburn because "I don't need sunscreen, I never burn!" I was wrong! But it did turn into a nice tan like I knew it would.

We went to the museum and there was a bunch of stuff from Princess Marie of Romania. This was one of my favorite paintings from the exhibit. I think it's Marie's daughter or something.

As you know, there are peacocks roaming outside. Well, I really wanted a close-up picture of them so I pretended to have food. It worked, they all started coming closer. A little too close, though. They started chasing after us, even when we were in the car they were still surrounding us. It was pretty frightening. The females look like raptors.

I'll put up some pictures later!

While I was looking at pictures of bikes to paint for my dad, I came across this. Why walk on your feet when you can walk on a platform with wheels and take up more space? And whoa, don't you even think about skipping the helmet, you might tip over or run over a rock!

My favorite note they added?: "Thinking of taking the Treadmill Bike to the grocery store? Be sure to stock up on ice cream while you're there. You will have earned it."

No big news with me. I work, I paint, I sleep and I eat a lot of granola. And occasionally I take naps with my buddy George. Speaking of, he's sleeping next to me right now and boy is he squeaky! Every time he inhales I hear a little whimper.

A month and a half of my summer has already gone by. My next plans are to find somewhere to volunteer, to babysit for one of my brother's friends, to paint like crazy and to learn how to cook tons of different food. And maybe become a bronzed babe (like you know, not all pasty for bikini season?). And to exercise and eat healthy! I guess I should get started on all those things pretty soon.

It is now time for granola. Goodbye.

  • First exam, check! I just got done with my Interpersonal Communication exam and it went pretty well. There were only three short answer questions which was nice, but I may have answered the wrong question on accident. At 6 I have my presentation for Ethics about the issue with the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints in Texas. I've actually had a lot of fun doing research about it. But now I have nine hours to kill. What am I going to do? Take a nap! Yes, I could study, but I don't have any exams tomorrow so I'll have allllllll day long.

The weather being semi-okay has made me super excited to come back home. When it's all gross outside there is nothing to look forward to about going back, but now there is the possibility of lounging in the hot tub or even tanning!

Well, back to sleep I go.

    EDIT:

Halfway through exams! It's so exciting. My next one is on Wednesday at 4, and right now it's Tuesday morning. I reviewed last night and I'm totally not worried. Oh, but yesterday I got back an Ethics test and I got 72% on it again. The professor said he doesn't look at letter grades, he looks at how much we've improved. Oh shit! The same grade on both tests!

I'd say it's time to go read a book. See ya!
